 Piper S Slater started piping at school [in the mid 1950's] and hasn't looked back. He took formal training at the College of Piping and informally at the Guards Depot and Army Schools of Piping. He has studied under and benefited from the collective experience of many famous teachers viz Gordon Spiers, Donald MacPherson, Donald MacLeod and Angus MacDonald.
Apart from his school pipe band and a brief period in a London band, most of Piper S Slater's bagpipe playing has been as a soloist. He has performed solo at a variety of events worldwide - from the Cairn at Boreraig to the foothills of the Himalayas, from the deserts of the middle east to the jungles of Borneo and all over Europe. A life member of the Scottish Piping Society of London and a long time member of the College of Piping he now plays in Wales.

Piper S Slater wears Gordon tartan and for normal engagements Highland dress as in above picture - Kilt, black jacket, glangarry etc. For more formal engagements he can wear evening wear - the jacket is replaced with a 'Prince Charlie' jacket and black tie. |
