Piper G Wright started learning the pipes in 1976, at the age of 11. He played in small bands for a number of years, until joining the successful Dromara Highland Pipe Band in late 1982. Dromara became European Champions, Ulster Champions, Champion of Champions in that year, as well as achieving numerous other wins and prizes. The following year they had more success, winning the Ulster Championship in a higher grade for example.
In late 1984, Piper G Wright joined the Highly Successful RUC Pipe Band , winning trophy after trophy - including All Ireland, Ulster indoor and out. At that time, they became the most successful ever band outside of Scotland . He also had a lot of fun playing with drummers in solo competitions - again with a very high success rate - plus at many concerts and functions, in front of royalty, politicians and foreign delegates.
In the 1990's, he concentrated on solo piping, performing at private and corporate functions nationwide. To date he is still doing this, along with passing the bagpiping tradition down to his 10 year old son, who is showing much promise and may one day overtake his dad!
As for dress, Piper G Wright can wear full no.1 or evening dress in a number of tartans, which may be of help with regard to bridal party colours - see dress options opposite.
He is available to play at any function - be it as a solo piper, duet, mini or full band - and is happy to travel anywhere in Ireland. |
